After a successful screening of human rights-based films & panel discussions in Nairobi, together with the Under Our Skin Film Festival on Human Rights, we took the festival to the coastal region.
Apart from holding screenings in the community, We took the festival to learning institutions like Pwani university where the students got an opportunity to interact with human rights activists and Film directors to discuss issues around human Rights and Culture. Diverse films highlighting human rights-based issues they don’t know about were shown for the first time to students at the university.
We had organizations & activists join us to hold panel discussions and help them learn about our lost cultures, GBV, police brutality, climate change, and the importance of speaking up & taking back control of our narrative.
The festival is a chance for the general public and students to explore the possibilities for social and environmental change and how they are impacted by different conditions & contexts.
This video recap highlights the direct feedback of participants after the film screening at Pwani University. It also illustrates the impact on the audience & how Under Our Skin seeks to educate the masses on human rights through film.
